Position Summary
The Production Manager, in close coordination with the Director of Production, is primarily responsible for the production management of The 5th’s mainstage season and Education Department productions. This is a newly formed role for the department and organization, with intent to expand the ability to successfully plan and oversee the execution of large-scale musicals.
Essential Duties

In collaboration with the Director of Production, oversee the execution of all production requirements in support of the work across The 5th’s stage and throughout the organization.

Maintain production calendars within the department and share pertinent information across the organization.

Create and maintain production and tech schedules.

Assist the Director of Production in creating and maintaining show and season budgets.

Track all labor, production, artistic and show related expenses.

Schedule and lead regular production meetings with staff and creative teams.

Cultivate and promote a safe working environment and ensure that all production and technical departments operate in accordance with current health and safety regulations and best theater practice.

Ensure that The 5th is in compliance with local and national collective bargaining agreements (IATSE, AFM, USA, SDC and AEA).

Provide clear communication to all members of the creative team ensuring the understanding of resources available to them.

Create and distribute design milestones and deadlines, relevant policies and show calendars to all creative team

Organize on site design meetings and designer visits.

Lead design meetings, production meetings and post preview note sessions.

Lead, manage and supervise stage management teams.

Coach and develop staff members by monitoring the quality of employees work and providing constructive feedback, undertaking disciplinary actions if the need arises and completing annual performance evaluations.

Actively participate in fostering a work environment centering the core values of The 5th Avenue.

Attend departmental and interdepartmental meetings as required.

Serve as an ambassador of The Theatre to creative teams, prioritize making all feel welcome and taken care of while working at The 5th Avenue Theatre.
Skills and Qualifications
-
Training and experience serving in a management role in a production department at a theater, live event venue, or a related field.

Enjoy creating and implementing new processes and working across departments.

Budget management experience and aptitude in crafting and overseeing budgets required.

Proven experience in handling production and design processes on large scale productions.

Working knowledge of IATSE, AFM, USA, SDC, AEA and LORT collective bargaining agreements.

Demonstrated creative judgment, excellent problem-solving skills and detail-oriented.

Strong ability to lead a team, delegate and communicate effectively across multiple departments and with dynamic people.

Must be able to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities as well as attend to numerous projects concurrently.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability and willingness to exercise professional courtesy and discretion at all times and maintain confidentiality as required.

Must be willing and able to work flexible hours/days reflective of a production schedule of a theater which includes a variety of hours including evenings and weekends.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and on-line meeting platforms such as Zoom essential.
